Health
Maintain required insurance and health cover
MediumProvincial health coverage and waiting periods differ. Keep private insurance active until eligible and check whether prescriptions, dental, optical and ambulance services are covered.
Arrival
Follow customs, biosecurity and medicine controls
MediumDeclare all food, plants, animals and related products on arrival. Currency or monetary instruments totalling CAD 10,000 or more must be declared. False declarations can lead to seizure and penalties. Carry prescription medicines in original packaging with a prescription or doctor letter. Narcotic, controlled and cannabis-related products are subject to strict federal border rules.
Emergency
Prepare for disruption and emergencies
MediumWildfires, smoke, extreme cold, storms and long-distance transport disruption can affect travel and housing. Follow provincial emergency alerts. Keep secure copies of the passport, permit, port-of-entry letter, acceptance letter, insurance and lease. Save 911, campus security, insurer, landlord and consular contacts.
